INSPIRATIONS

AN ODE TO JLM GROUP

BY ANNA GABRIELLE

February 16, 2023

4 places, 4 atmospheres, 5 senses. From the most accessible to the most upscale, all 5 senses stimulated. These addresses are for those who want to take the time to reconnect, or those who simply want authenticity to warm their hearts because once the doors open, time stands still. The sensation of being transported between two worlds is consistently the effect that the JLM group has on their guests.

SHANA

GROSSERY SHOP TO HOUSE OF EXQUISITE DINNERS

Welcome like at home we’ve always wanted to have. Friendly, authentic and festive, the place gives us the same vibration: we feel that we can come without any filter, naturally, as we are. We found ourselves in the right place from the very first moment we got in.

Shosh, the daytime grocery store, became Shana a house of dinners, loving to show to the Parisian scene typical recipes of Ashkenazi grandmothers. This restaurant highlights Israeli wines and plates to share.

Wood and candles. On the walls, we notice the muses of Shosh Shanna, the actual women who inspired the place. This restaurant highlights Israeli wines and plates to share.

Small seats together with bigger seating areas allow privacy for both kinds of clientele. The side-by-side setting lets social people mingle with others.

This restaurant highlights Israeli wines and plates to share. In the dishes, we discover peppy and generous flavors, greatly prepared products. The hot brioche bread (such a must) comes in straight away, after ordering, and accompanies us throughout the discovery of the flavors of the dishes.

The music resonates throughout the room. At the beginning we waddle in our chair, at the end we happily join the dancing game between the tables. Large transparent windows give curiosity to people outside to check out that warm place. Seems they would love to be here instead of us and would gladly be coming another time. So do we!

TEKES

A CEREMONY TO VEGETARIAN CUISINE

tekes-2-520x780.jpg

Tekés is a ceremony, an ode to vegetarian cuisine, giving powerful tastes and new sensations.

The place is gratefully soaked in smells of salt and sage as soon as we open the doors. Open-kitchen, dimmed lights and large tables. We are seating in front of the cooks, looking at dishes sent away by many to tables around, we raise our glasses. We just love the deconstructed but flawless atmosphere.

Although the restaurant is full, we are far from feeling left aside. A careful and cheerful description accompanies each plate served. The staff spirit is aligned to the soul of the place, warm, convivial, lively, joyful, smiling – Can keep on going but you may have understood our point…

Food is above expectations. The particularity of this cuisine is to reinvent ancestral cooking methods of Jerusalem ; balancing between raw, cold dishes, warmer with a woody and sandy note.

Once again, JLM group hits strong, for its latest opening. Can’t do anything else than recommend it to everyone since then. Suitable not only for a small duo at the counter but also with a larger group seated on soft benches. As long as you want to have a good - letting go time, you've come to the right place.

Brilliant concept.

BOUBALE

LOVELY BRUNCH AT THE GRAND MAZARIN HOTEL

Discovering the stunning brunch at the Grand Mazarin Hotel – after pulling the heavy curtains of a room adorned with imaginative and eclectic Ashkenazi motifs.

We sit comfortably on the banquettes, and start with the cocktail menu.

It's a real laboratory; for example, they have carried out 48 clarifications of curdled milk to obtain the mixture. The use of vegetables gives the impression of drinking dishes, as their form is most of the time liquid. We rise the hand when the call of the stomach rings, and begin our Sunday tasting.

A mix of flavors between the West and the East is just right in this hotel at the crossroads of two worlds.

KAPARA

FORMER BALAGAN... GETS EVEN BETTER

karel_balas_folderold_11-650x810.jpg

On one hand, velvet curtains and colorful paintings on the walls; on the other hand,

patterned tiles, a stainless-steel bar, and an open kitchen. On one hand, the space warms us, on the other hand, the room revives us. The tone is set, a velvet hand in an iron glove.

There is no doubt about it; the team welcomes us as well as it delights you. We are sent directly to where the Cheffe comes from - Israel - and into her universe. A sensual femininity who knows where she goes. The notes are fresh and balanced. It's an explosion of flavors with generous portions. Love prevails here.

Her family's references play an important role in the conception of her menu. Repurposing dishes or combining flavors is what we expect today. She puts her memories, her heart, an emotional memory into it. It revives our taste buds.

The restaurant caters romantic dates with its speakeasy, but also group meetings as it has an oval room to be privatized (also have the possibility to privatize part of the restaurant additionally).

We are surprised by the maturity this establishment has achieved. Former Balagan was a young one having fun, but today it has grown up, it has taste, and knows how to party.
